Heavyweight Gym Hoodies: What GSM Actually Means

If you've ever bought a "premium" hoodie that went thin and shapeless after a month, the number you needed to check was GSM. Here's what it means — and why it's the difference between gym gear that lasts and gear that doesn't.

What "GSM" actually means

GSM = grams per square metre, the weight of the fabric. The higher the GSM, the denser and more durable the material. Lightweight tees sit around 130–160 GSM; mid-weight is ~200–280; heavyweight fleece starts around 350 GSM. Heavier fabric holds its shape, blocks wind, and survives wash after wash.

Why heavyweight wins for training

  • Structure: a boxy, heavyweight hoodie drapes properly instead of clinging or sagging.
  • Durability: a denser knit means fewer pills, less stretch-out, and a longer life.
  • Warmth: better for warm-ups, cool-downs, and cold mornings.

How to choose

Look for the GSM on the product page — if a brand hides it, that's a tell. For everyday training pick 350 GSM and up, check whether the fit is true-to-size or oversized, and confirm the graphic is printed to last, not a peel-off transfer.

The NOVR Forge Hoodie

Our Forge Hoodie is built on 350 GSM heavyweight fleece in a boxy, oversized cut, with the NOVR mark printed front and back to last. Pair it with the Forge Sweatpants for the full Forge Set.
