Compression vs. Cotton: Which Training Tee Should You Wear?

Compression or cotton? Both have a place in training — the right pick depends on what you're doing. Here's a simple way to decide.

What a compression tee does

Compression fabric (typically a poly-spandex blend) fits like a second skin. It wicks sweat fast, dries quickly, and moves with you — ideal for lifting, conditioning, and layering under a hoodie.

When cotton wins

A heavyweight cotton tee breathes, feels soft, and looks right on and off the court. Reach for it on everyday wear, lighter sessions, and whenever you want an oversized streetwear fit.

Weight and fit still matter

For cotton, 240–250 GSM gives a substantial, non-see-through feel. For compression, look for enough spandex to stretch and recover without going sheer when you move.

NOVR's two tees

Our Performance Tee is a 200 GSM poly-spandex compression cut built for training; the Drop Shoulder Tee is a 250 GSM pure-cotton oversized cut for everyday. Most people end up keeping one of each.
